enigma

Last two and day spent scratching my head has provided no logical solutions. And appropriately each is a four-letter word.

40 down: What's shown up in morning after pill-box (4)
Have: I?R?

29 down: Ingredient of Mrs Beaton's Christmas cake (4)
Have S?D?

Suggestions, answers, Christmas crackers appreciated.

40 Inro - a little box, it's backwards in the clue.

29 Soda (as in baking soda).

Thank you, Malone

Soda did occur to me but I couldn’t see Mrs Beaton adding fizzy water to her cake mix!!

Not au fait with small Japanese cases either!

Have a great Christmas

I don't see any wordplay for SODA - is it just a definition?

Yes, Chris - there were loads of ingredients. The clues all just said something like 'another ingredient of X Across' and the answer to X was Mrs Beetons Christmas Cake.

Enigma, I've just realised you referred to Mrs Beaton - she was actually Mrs Beeton. (I mention this only because I think her name was in one of the answers.)
