Trick little one !!

verb - ver(y) (extremely, short) + b(ook)

In "thou art", art is an old-fashioned verb

Some of these compilers are getting so obtuse that soon only other compilers will be able to understand them!!

Thank you Dave,
I am inclined to agree with you that it is very
obtuse, and I would never have twigged it.
Best regards,
Jerry

If you want obtuse, try this one which I saw recently from Calum J Macdonald who is crossword editor of the Herald. I'll tell you the answer later.

H? (9,5)

Slightly off topic....but where does the solution to Saturday's end up ? Does it appear in the Sunday Times, or roll round to Monday's ?

Hi Paul,
In response to your query about Saturday's Times
as it is a prize crossword the solution will appear on Monday week.
I still have no idea about John's H?
Best regards to you both, and perhaps John will
put us out of misery,
Jerry

Well, no ferries again yesterday afternoon or this morning so we won't get the papers until mid-afternoon.

Oh, and BTW the answer is FINISHING TOUCH!! quite a clever clue really.
