Come to a grinding halt on this one!
Is 28a Atlanta - the theme word
Can't figure out the two unclued 4d and 30d.
Help much appreciated.

Phoenix is the theme word. Atlanta belongs to one of the three associated groups.

One other point. I have 16a as gnus but there's no 'n' in the list in the instructions!
