Here's me, as usual, on a Friday scrambling to get the last 2 or 3 before tomorrow's paper comes! 14a "bring from abroad a foreign plague" I_A_R_U_E - think I may have something wrong? 23a "seaman heads for tavern in ancient port" - I presume Ostia, but can't parse it. And 7d "enemy sergeant ultimately going over name and rank" C-E-I- ? Any help appreciated.

Thanks, all. So I must have 9d wrong - but Harrogate certainly is a spa town! So ... what else is it, I wonder. And "foetid", I get the point - so it's obviously "docents" for 6a that's throwing both these out; though it is, apparently, to do with academics holding certain posts in a university. ??

What is the clue for 9d?
