I join the confounded. Stuck on same 2 as yourself. Imagine 2d could be Tri (short journey, trip) ??????

2d is spiritual spi (n) and ritual. believe it is listener though can't understand why everybody panics at Mayer. we're here to get on with the crossies and defeat the setters.

The Listener crossword is reputedly the world's hardest - but I had to Google it to check!

Many thanks everybody, the solution for 2 down parses but Listener for 25 across is no doubt correct but I would humbly suggest the clue is a little spurious!
