The beginning of the real answer to 17 A and the middle of 10 D both fit the meaning of the last word of the phrase (if mine is correct!)

But, I have the real answer to 14D and can't find similar word in it.

I haven't got the 'real' answer to 14 D - just a 7 letter word at the end . The first three letters are still blank!

I'll have another look - maybe my word IS the answer. I've just realised that the real answer to 11 A fits in with my thoughts, the same as 10 D and 17 A.

I think the definition is 'stable' - and the (real) answer has 4 letters ( I got it from an odd word for husband, dropping the 'o'). Hope that's of some use.
