Hi Lady Bee ! Thanks for your help but ,unfortunately, to no avail. I have spent a sleepless night with book characters whirling through my head !! From your clue I guess that the answer will end with a T ? That would be a nuisance as I already have 25 !!
Any help for 37 and 72 would be appreciated !! P

7, The answer is a word for a today - it's made up of anagram of copy with a word for refusal surrounding it.

25. The whole answer is a cake, sounds German and is colourful when cut open. Check spelling in Chambers as there is an alternative and look up meaning of first two syllables.

30. Type of pulse involved

33. A word for secret, mysterious enclosed in an abbreviated weight (for gold)

44. Have an answer, not sure that it answers everything in the clue but it's basically an anagram of 'tom-cats' (mostly) and it's something that's considered lucky.

As you haven't asked for clues for 36. Does this mean you have it. Any pointer would be appreciated.
