6D: Egyptian sun god, supreme god of the universe(4-2)
A ? E ? - R ?

I've heard of Amun-Ra (or Re)but could this be AmEn-Ra - cannot find an appropriate reference?

Last clue, help appreciated

All my references say that it was AmUn who merged with Ra, not AmEn - that is why I was querying it?

Thanks , Jolan . I COULD send you loads of other links where it says 'AmUn'' - maybe it's one of those name where the vowels are interchangeable - it does happen in some of these languages/ cultures!
Thank you for taking the trouble to find that for me.

Thank you elle!
I never heard of AmEn ra either. I think 'amen' is on wikipedia also.
Have a good night. J

Hi Jolan x

As far as I remember, when we were about the only tourists in Egypt (Christmas after 9/11), our guide said that vowels were not written and those you see on touristy lists of hierogylphs are not exactiy that. In general, an e is put between consonants. Chefren's Pyramid (which we went inside) is also called Khafre's Pyramid.

Can confirm what you're saying, Rosalind: Arab students in London 45 yrs ago explained that to me!
And welcome back to Jolan if he happens to look in here again: I didn't realize you're already back in circulation! Had a nice break (circumstances permitting)? I hope so!
