Thanks , Jolan . I COULD send you loads of other links where it says 'AmUn'' - maybe it's one of those name where the vowels are interchangeable - it does happen in some of these languages/ cultures!

As far as I remember, when we were about the only tourists in Egypt (Christmas after 9/11), our guide said that vowels were not written and those you see on touristy lists of hierogylphs are not exactiy that. In general, an e is put between consonants. Chefren's Pyramid (which we went inside) is also called Khafre's Pyramid.
Can confirm what you're saying, Rosalind: Arab students in London 45 yrs ago explained that to me!
