You haven't done anything wrong at all. The controversy is about "recycling" clues from previous crosswords.


(P.S. my six, although of variable quality, are all original, or at least if not, that is just co-incidence. They came from a game called "Clue Chain" that some of us used to play here on Monday afternoons)

Perhaps you could explain what I was thinking of with the "Sir Ranulph" (Fiennes, of course) clue?

is the letter count right Chris? The answer I thought is 5, 7, 5 so obviously on the wrong track

I think that it probably was a topical reference - perhaps he was on some sort of polar expedition at the time.

Something to do with his scuba diving ?

That reminds me - when Howard Hawks was filming Raymond Chandler's "The big sleep" he gets to a point where a minor character (chauffeur?) is found dead in the bay. He can't work out who killed him or why, so he phoned Chandler. "Leave it with me", Chandler said.


Chandler phoned back later to say "I have absolutely no idea!"
