Hi raymond
"Throw" more as in "throw lots of things at", or "throw it down" (for rain, for example.

The solution is actually a French word.

Hello everyone. Apologies for my recent absence - various reasons! Meanwhile, as per usual, am stuck!
13D Defiance of maverick rugby player (9) and 14D Put off by shortened beat of early song (9). I am also stuck (like raymond) on 15A Throw ring in...... etc. By the way I always assumed Raymond was a man so thanks for putting me right there raymond.

Hope you are all enjoying the summer.

Hi mondrian
Good to hear from you again.
13d the "rugby player" refers to a team rather than a position
14d is a little unfair as the "put off" part comes second (I wasted some time trying to fit it in first)

Thank you for your replies. I have never heard of that rugby team - no surprise there! Nor the cycling thing! I am relieved as I was beginning to think I was even more thick after my long lapse recently.

Part of the reason for my absence - my family from abroad were here. They went to the Rugby Sevens at the Games and also the Hockey. Apart from the cycle road race at the end I watched on TV. I could not tell you who I saw at the cycle road race as they were past in a flash. I could hardly believe the speed they were going along Argyle Street (city centre where M&S is) All very exciting with the rain pelting down!! I got thoroughly soaked!

I watched the road race on TV - the weather looked appalling!

Very exciting finish - would he change his wheel in time? (He did.)

btw there is more than one team called "Lions", but the British Lions are the most well-known. They are a side picked from the Home Nations, every four years, to tour one of the three great Southern Hemisphere rugby nations.
