Some help with this one, please! A rationale for the answer will be appreciated if possible:

27: Printing paper size, 20 X 25 inches ( 4 ): RO?L
( ROIL fits, but I cannot rationalize it! )

This paper size is called Royal but since the answer is 4 letters this doesn't help !

There's no indication that this is a homophone. Roil has a completely different meaning acc. to Chambers

This clue (general knowledge not cryptic) is shown as 5 letters, but only 4 in the grid
