8ac The difference between casual and formal test sites is eloquence.
The answer must be ORATORY, but I can't sort out the word-play, and it's bugging me!

Labs and Lab oratory s casual and formal test sites?

Although it fits the sense etc I've never seen the word wriiten any other way than "laboratories"

"Laboratorys" is wrong, of course, but I think the "sites" just refers to the two possibilities, so it's the difference between LAB and LABORATORY.

(He said in hindsight, not having been able to solve it!)

I dont think "eloquence" is "oratory"?
