Hi,
I have just completed my local cryptic crossword and as I am always eager to learn, I would be grateful if someone would explain the logic behind one clue as although I have got the answer, I am not quite sure how I got there.

Being a frequent visitor I name one duke with old hat. 2,3,3.

Answer IN AND OUT. I can see the frequent visitor bit but where does the duke with old hat come into it?
