I note Tim Moorey is economising on his labours by using a clue at 22d that he has already used in The Week last week!

I won a cash prize for the Mephisto last week. That is, I received a cheque in the post without a covering message and had to phone News UK to discover why they had sent it. No champagne and balloons, then!

Same clue used in Mephisto 2533 in March 2009. Still, they tell us to recycle. And congrats on your win.

I've won a Mephisto prize about a half a dozen times. You used to get a postcard on the Wednesday after closing date, with 'Brain Power' and the Times logo. This was followed by a cheque for GBP 20 later. Now you don't get the postcard, just a cheque from News International, and if you're in the €urozone, it is now €20. Covers a decent bottle of red anyway :-)
