Do we know if both clues are by the same setter ?
If not, then more than coincidental

ST 4596 was set by Dean Mayer; couldn't find the name of the Everyman setter.

Given the number of times in Clueless and Peer Review that a very limited number of setters come up independently with similar or identical clues (always apologising etc) it seems far from unusual that professional setters doing many crosswords over a long period occasionally come up with similar clues for the same word.
