Quality vehicle needs washer so no dirt spreads. Answer: Roadworthiness.

In my opinion a 'quality vehicle' is a superbly engineered car whereas 'roadworthiness' is a quality of that vehicle. I think that makes this a somewhat misleading clue. Am I being too pedantic or did anybody else think this too?

Quality vehicle needs - Roadworthiness

Washer so no dirt '(spreads - anagram indicator)'

I didn't do the crossword, but, from what you say, I would definitely agree with you about your interpretation.

Elle, sorry to be cheeky but are you agreeing with Kitabu or me ?

Sorry for the confusion (brain addled today), I was agreeing with you with you, mamya, that the answer reads as you put it "quality vehicle needs......... roadworthiness" (anag)
Although what Kitabu says is of course correct, that isn't how the clue was meant to be interpreted.

You're welcome! ( My concentration is on the tennis not what I'm doing on the computer!)

In my opinion you are misreading the clue.
'(A) quality (which any) vehicle needs' and the clue is perfectly correct.

My mistake for not realising that the word 'needs' is part of the definition and not part of the anagram indicator. Thanks to you all and in particular to Mamya whose swift incisiveness is always impressive (tennis or no tennis!)
