hi everyone, I'm stuck on one last clue from this crossword and would like a little help if possible, many thanks

7 across, 4 letters: could you beat it with a stick? *r*p


[I have a word in mind but I doubt it could be what the crossword setter is looking for ;) ]

Just looking I think it could be wrap, synonym with stick and beating, as in wrap on the knuckles. thanks to anyone who tried to suss it out for me.

It is rap on the knuckles, not wrap.

Thank you rusty and mamya, I don't think it's whip though, as the answer with the letter 'r' is sunbathers, anagram of "as the burns", I appreciate the effort - I'm off out to do a bit of it myself now {sunbathing}
