8D In Scott's Ivanhoe, pretender to the Crown of England (10)

This should be Aethelstane but it doesn't fit :) Any idea of a variant spelling?

There shouldn't really be alternative spellings for a literary character (as opposed to the actual person in history). Hence Scott's spelling of Aethelstane should be correct.

Either the compiler or your E are wrong!
