Hi puzzlers. No body else thwarted by14d? I have all the crossing letters and they are correct, and I have a word that fits but can't parse it from the clue. Any helper out there?

synonym for seed (of a plum for example + synonym for dock (as done to dog's tail)

That was a bit gnomic!

First 5 letters "seed" (as in a peach etc.); last 4 a meaning of "dock".

Good to see so many 'posts' this week, but I'm still looking for tips on a few. Help please for 9d (poss an anagram but I can't 'get' it.!) Consequently both 15a and 23a are giving me grief.!
Will check for a reply in t'morning...Yawn.!
