Don't fully understand. What are the clues?

Letter ds ending in d - (dees ending) -descending- going down?

I've only started the crossword cartana haven't got those as yet but 8Across is ZERO And !0 Across is CONCHITA (winner Eurovisuon) and 18 Across is THE FAINTHEARTED that may start you off

Very long shot- as the letters spell out flash in sequence with "strike " - chain lightning?
