E?AN - Is this Evan or Ewan?

Is " getting back" doing double service?

Meaning to move the last letter to the front AND meaning getting back = wane?

Or is it a definition of VANE mean back or spine?

...or am I missing the point totally?

I think I'm convinced my maurice's answer from " another website"

I would have thought the "front" bit is "van" as in "vanguard", and possibly the "e" is then the "back" of "the", no?
