POSTING TIPS

1. State the name (and number if available) of the puzzle in the thread title. "Stuck", "Help!!!" or "Last One" aren't very useful titles.

2. Give the clue number, the clue and the number of letters and please put this number in parentheses at the end of the clue. If no number of letters is given in the puzzle, then tell us. It also helps to know if the clue is cryptic or general knowledge.

3. Tell us which letters you already have. Use ? for missing letters as it makes it much easier to read. Also ensure that the letters given match the stated number of letters in the clue.

I am sure it will be appreciated if you thank someone for their help.

Have a good day

I fully support the Posting Tips aim - help us help you.
However, while I agree with the desirability of good manners, I'm not sure that an instruction to give thanks is appropriate here.
This is a personal decision for subscribers and, as indicated in another current thread, seems to cause enough stress already.
We can always ignore the calls for help from those who show ingratitude consistently.
In the end it's a personal thing.

Totally agree with OP.
As discussed recently, and aware that this could go on forever with suggestions, I would add a fourth point.
Check if the same puzzle has recently been discussed rather than having numerous posts for same puzzle on one page of the forum.

Totally agree Jazzgirl.
But after about 18mths as a forum member, still a newbie, I've come to the conclusion that those who would benefit most from "posting sensibly" do not read any threads, bar their own.
There is another member, from my part of the world, whom I have given "posting tips" to within their own threads on more than one forum and I get the reply "yes thanks", but nothing changes.
"Heads and brick walls?"
All the best
:-)

Kenyatta. My remark re thanking people was not meant to be an instruction, but just a gentle reminder. "If you wish to thank people for their help, this would be much appreciated" Better ?

In view of further comments on the thread about Jazzgirl's 'instruction' to thank other users, I have amended her wording (at Jazzgirl's request) to say that thanking someone would be appreciated.

Jazzgirl. I was about to say 'Spot on', when I saw that your original post doesn't seem to say what I though it did. Have you edited it? If Yes, then that's very clever or am I going mad?
