For the second time today - thanks a million, Mamya.
So , my 9A giving me the "S" in 6D is wrong.
I think the answer is Cracking, where I had Crackers.

But it knocks out Sweeper as the answer to 5D,
which is now S _ I _ P _ R

Understanding must be referring to being worn on the foot.

help. I must really be losing it when I'm stumped
by the local cryptic!
