I'm still here and certainly not been missing because I threw my toys out of the pram, it'd take much more to put me in a sulk. Trouble was, that last week I wasn't well at all and I had some real problems logging onto the site too, in fact, the pages are still giving me trouble loading and sometimes they just won't seem to appear but it seems to be better tonight.
Ok, so the disappearance of the Clueless Thread that I posted?
I had no intention of posting a word which would cause offence, in fact, it's one of the 'new words' to have appeared over the last couple of years and I found it quite amusing when I first heard it. The real reason for posting it was because of its (in my opinion) difficulty to clue. I remember that the contest was started for that very reason, to find a word that would be challenging to clue.
Its letters included a 'V' - a 'J' and 2 x 'Z' which I feel would have tested the proficiency of anyone's clue writing abilities with some (hopefully) differences of approach to the word, and maybe offer the best fodder for our 'Extraction Anagram' experts which seems to be a favourite device for many of our regular crafty setters of late.
I did pick the word(s) SWAZZLE/SWOZZLE quite recently for the very same reason (of difficulty).
When posting the word, I did realise that some of our more naughty minded members would opt for something on the 'Risque' side for definition purposes with mild titillation.
However, I hear that some of the replies were a little on the pornographic side. I haven't seen any of the entries so can't really comment as it was removed before I finished work. (It would help if anyone could email the problem clues to me so I can get a true idea of what all the fuss was about)
Am I angry about this?
No, maybe I'm more confused really, with a (I suppose) a slight perturbation at not really understanding what is allowed and what is deemed as offensive. I did read the 'VIZ' threads earlier to find some real wordage that, although doesn't offend me, I would expect them to have more of a 'shock value' - Please don't erase these too as I don't wish to be seen as telling tales out of school.
The problem I now face is that if I set the new 'Clueless' word tomorrow (or tonight) is that I can't be around to judge on Wednesday evening because I'm working until early afternoon and then I'm back in as an Inpatient until Thursday afternoon.
So if you're all prepared to wait for the result until Thursday, then I'll keep hold of the baton until then, but if you think this will be inappropriate in that it will be too late and maybe overrun into the 'PEER REVIEW' contest, then maybe I should bow out and hand the baton to Theambler who seems very keen to take the lead on this one.
