Dinosaur is TREX. Put shortened big bird, backwards, inside this. 'Drawer' means an animal that draws carts etc.

22d
Old word for a bowl.
A word meaning 'found' as in establish, but minus 'e', next to 'r' for river.
The first letter clashes with 22 ac.

Definition is 'old woman'.
About = c.
Surround this with a word for fumes, minus 'e'.

We stayed in NOT watching it with friends - but spent a lot of the evening talking about it. How and why it started etc.
Then remembering how far back we could go to our early years years in front of the TV.
I won with Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson (Sing little birdie)
I seem to remember Teddy had a fairly flamboyant moustache - but his partner was clean shaven.

Do you know, I don't know how and why it started! Another challenge to find out now. And names like Pearl and Teddy are coming back into fashion; are we on a giant hamster wheel? Bearded ladies in the circus?

My son was asking me that (why/how it started).
I think it was to test?drive forward the technical ability to do a simultaneous live broadcast across several countries. What to broadcast that all those countries could understand/enjoy? A song contest. Good idea originally. But . . . . now?

Am I right in reading the preamble that the 'losing' abbreviation is to be highlighted?

That means what you would win goes under the grid?

I assumed this as the clashes don't amount to the number you need to have won

Djawhufc, my reasoning is the same as yours - and I came to the same conclusion re the highlighting.

Thanks Malone

Sorry I meant the total of the 6 unclued rather than clashes
