Foreign married au pair's sacked having lost a jumper. Marsupial.

I'm assuming this is an anagram of 'm' (married) and 'au pairs' but that leaves me one letter (an L) short. Also I'm not clear which part of the clue indicates the solution is an anagram - the word 'foreign' or 'sacked'. Sorry to be so pedantic but it's bugging me!

I think the 'L' comes from 'Having lost' ie adding L(lost) but agree both 'sacked/foreign' are anagram indicators.

Maybe someone else can do better.

Yes, I did wonder if the word 'lost' was a factor here but there is no indication that only the first letter of the word should be used and I have no knowledge of the word 'lost' being commonly abbreviated to an 'L'.

Nor me, I was clutching at straws somewhat.

Thanks for trying Mamya - you are always so good (and prompt) with your responses that if it's foxing you perhaps an email to the ST is called for!

Not having the paper and I'm also probably clutching, is there a "the" missing from the start of the clue.
This could give The foreign = la + m = married + au pair's sacked being the anagrind with the extra "a" removed by "lost a"?

Clue is exactly as posted above.

No 'the' at the beginning of the clue I'm afraid but Ginge's suggestion would make sense if the ST had simply misprinted the clue and left out the 'the'. (Sorry for inelegance of syntax!)

For what it's worth, L is lost on football coupons etc. A teams last six games on a form guide, ie wwlsdl.
won, won, lost, sore draw, draw and lost.
