Still struggling with this one. Only have two of the 9 letter words, lots of other answers but not the critical ones, it seems. Sorry, don't know number of letters for clues below

Hard look once more in short cut for locks. (This should start with e, f, g, h or i.
Climbing ladder carrying books (Starts with d or e)
Scotsman's owner without superior allowed to change when week's right (starts with o)
Cereal grains in powder originally as real crackers break down (o or p)

Climbing ladder carrying books = EDDA. The E is in the top row.

The cereal grains clue begins with p, followed by an anagram of as real and a two letter verb for break down.

Got that now - thanks. Will have another go at fitting them in the grid.

Have got that one now, I think, but it seems to have left me with a big problem in the top right hand corner, the last column at the top, which I have as starting with an 'e' but I have no five letter 'e' words

Light has dawned- it should be an 'a' not an 'e'
