Thank you chrisg. As to the reply from chrise - I sense some irritation. I always look very hard for previous responses, which is why I hardly ever post. I notice that some people seem to just ask for almost every answer over and over again and get replies without a problem. Obviously, in this case I fell below the standard expected by chrise, invoking the rather terse reply. So, ten out of ten for making me feel small and stupid. Maybe one day I'll be as perfect as you.

I think we have to be very careful that we don't let our irritations upset other members.

Chrise is a very helpful poster here and the multi thread issue bothers him as it does some others (not me).

One more issue on this matter is that if I wanted for example 1 Across and 2 Down to get started, why would I choose to wade through 6/7 pages where many other answers are given?

Unlike other sites the search facility here only allows you to search for a Title and not a Clue, so starting a new thread seems eminently sensible to me.
