Hello, ginge, chrisg, chrise and Jg. Been out today, in the beautiful Spring weather (same here Ari - nice isn't it?).
Well Chrise, you've played a blinder today, eh? There seems a shortage of our "usuals" here today. Well done everybody. Hope the Spring continues to spring. See you next week (if we are spared - that's the Celt in me talking :) ) Here's the way I worked 'em out (just as Chris posted)
1. unusual shapes = hassep; small beds = cots; c(hassep)ots = CHASSEPOTS = rifles = arms (“old” signifying “1866 – 1874”)
2. noblemen = earls; order = OBE; earl(OBE)s = EARLOBES – are hanging by the neck.
3. absolutely = yes/yes = absolutely (Chambers & Oxford thes’i) = oui (French) and ja (German); committee = board; OUIJA BOARD - used to receive defunct messages
4. run = flow or cause to flow = anag indicator of “riot on town high street nah” = THROW ONE’S HAT INTO THE RING (inf) = institute an attack (Chambers def:- to issue a challenge, institute an attack)
5. detected = spotted; alert = fly; fielder = catcher; SPOTTED FLYCATCHER = bird = flyer
Bless, all.
J
