@les40

It would seem that imagcq has let the cat out of the bag - I said that I would hasten to apologise if I was wrong about muliple usernames so please accept my apology. I do deplore the way it was done and the tone of the post, however.

A great clue ixion, well done --- thank you for hosting Paul and the prize. Thank you also to Les40 for the mention and busby for the vote.

Hi Bobs mum
Your clue surface read beautifully.
It had subtraction plus " add a letter" to an anagram.
It involved a topic that the world is concerned about.
I can't understand why it didn't gain more votes.
It was a bit more "involved" than some other clues and held the "answer and the definition".
So why wasn't it a winner?
Cheers

Hi bobsmum,

I thought your clue was an excellent one too. I also liked Les@33.
I voted first as I popped in briefly for lunch. If I'd realised there was going to be a whitewash I would have given you both a mention. Unfortunately, we can only vote for one clue and Ixion's was a cracker.

Hi Rossim.
Ixions clue was a cracker....
Was it because of the reference to "old peoples parts that do not retain moisture"?
Or was it the "surface reading"?
It was a basic "subtractive anagram" with nice "surface reading".
Les@33 was a very clever "reversal clue" but I thought the "surface reading" didn't happen.
I can't fathom just how other participants decide which is the "best clue".
Sometimes its the most convoluted other times it's the "most amusing".
If anyone can "enlighten" me I would be most appreciative.
Cheers

Lovely ixion (as all are aware I have a predilection for extraction anagrams and that had everything, superb), cheers paul.

It's hard to say, but a good surface reading and for me something not too convoluted or obscure. I certainly think humour helps too!

Humour always seems to attract votes.

I don't like clues that I wouldn't be able to solve if I didn't already know the answer!

I'm with you on that one Rossim
:-)
Love having a chuckle myself.
If a clue reads "as a sentence" plus holds the "answer", and the definition then it's "got me".
Thanks heaps.
