Would appreciate the parsing for these......

Base having been shelled, carrier is off course (6) - ASTRAY (I think) It looks like it should be a word with it's base missing (shelled) but I can only see ASHTRAY or As Tray?

Base without its shell is AS and a tray is a carrier?

The starting letters (leads) spell spat?
