Chris, in my Chambers Crossword Dictionary it gives delicacy as an 8 letter synonym for dish; in the Chambers Dictionary itself, clotted cream is defined as "n. a famous Devonshire delicacy, thick cream made from scalded milk (also called clouted cream;)" you obviously didn't get out for enough cream teas when you were there. Ha ha.

And that's two for the price of one.

I always hated cream teas - give me the cream on ice cream any time!
There used to be (maybe still is) a shop in Croyde that sold home made ice cream in cornets with clotted cream spread on it. We used to make side trips there every time we visited relations.

Sounds great and so Cornish my sister lives in Feock. It's a hell of a trek to get there though!

It's really surprising just how far away Cornwall is. When we went to the Scillies a few years ago, we drove from Lancashire to stay with my sister in Barnstaple overnight; next day we drove to Penzance - this took longer!

It's considerably easier now that there is the M5. As a child I remember doing the journey by coach going from Sale in Cheshire down with Shearings (I think) to Cheltenham then changing to Black and White coaches for the remainder of the trip. I still think that it was the longest road haul in terms of time I have ever had in my life!
