I did finally finish yesterday's cryptic (!) but can any one parse my last clue for me, please?
2d: verse, one by short eccentric clergyman.
I had V - C - R, and the answer was obviously 'vicar' (confirmed by today's answers) but can' tsee how it works out?

Verse = v + i (one) + car(d) = short eccentric

Thanks, ginge. I could guess at the v + i (1), but failed to see the car(d) for short eccentric. Simple when it's explained to me!
