31 a/c "Many receiving most meagre allowance required attention."
Answer would appear to be "concentration", i.e. attention, but I cannot parse it, unless "on cent" is meant to represent "most meagre".
Assistance gratefully received.

Think Ration for meagre allowance and the rest should come into place

I'm still puzzled by the same issue: I assumed 'concentration' must be the answer and I realised that 'ration' was an allowance - or possibly a meagre allowance - but I can't see how 'concent' fits in.

And, in a similar vein, I'm stuck on justification for the following:
5d: why should 'masse' mean 'stroke'?
21a: why should 'berg' mean 'order' (assuming that 'amo' is 'Roma' backwards without the R)?
44d: I'm guessing the answer is 'tumbril' as a form of transport, but I can't see how any of the rest of the clue works.
54a: I'd guess the answer is 'lustre' - but, since I can't justify any tiny bit of it, I'm probably wrong. In any case, what is the answer - and why??

Mamya,

Thanks very much - all new to me, which is one reason I like the Times cryptic: I learn something almost every time!

Apologies sven and giles

I did not do this crossword (But being the times i saw ration and thought the rest would fall into place!)

However the true parse

Literal, cryptic and definition apply here.(In other words it is what it is)

1)Many receiving most/ 2)meagre allowance/ 3)required attention."

All of these mean A Concentration of something.
