Not too many problems with this one, but was wondering about the parsing of 16 Ac.
The clue for this is:- "A year among people
from an ancient culture" (5)
The answer is quite clearly "MAYAN" but if
^people" is interpreted as a noun, this would
imply "men" , and we would end up with
"MAYEN", which is obvously incorrect! So,
therefore, "people" in this instance, would
obviously seem to constitute a verb, and we
end up with "to people" or "to man", and then
"MAYAN" will be OK.
Just wanted to make sure that there was no
other way of arriving at the solution and that
I'm on the right lines.

you could say people=man as in "...man has lived on this planet for thousands of years ..."

Thanks, Marty - some of the clues can be so
convoluted, that one can end up with a dozen
answers, as we well know!
