I seem to have exhausted all possibilities for 28A and 29D and the best I can come up with is BARP and PAVE respectively, but any help in parsing both clues would be greatly appreciated

28A Scottish cairn you'll get from the top thus (4)
29D Quarry group of workment approach from below (4)

And it really does say "workment" !

28A Your clue is missing a crucial word as it says:
Scottish cairn you'll get to from top thus
So BAR P is what you do when you get TO from TOP

29D It says workmen in my paper.

Many thanks, Steve. In both online versions there is the "workment" which does exist as a very recondite word. Typical Grauniad screw-up :-)

Still not sure how 29a works:
Quarry group of workmen approach from below PA?E).
Pave (as in pavement) could be quarry-tile group, and approach could be ave(nue), but where does the P or workmen come in?

I saw this discussed somewhere - Pane is backwards in the clue 'workmENAPproach'. Quarry can mean a sheet of glass, as can pane.
