The clue was short works anagram close up, because I often do the crossword on line I always check the printed answer in the paper, the Times answer was OXUXCXE!!!! does any know why? one

This looks like a printing error. The answer should have been shown as Opuscle

it does make one wonder if proof reading still exists quite a few books I have read recently have quite a few errors

.....and grammar seems to have gone out of the window, too, doglet!
