I'm stuck on the parsing of 23D
"Empty heads of last in class, dense-what's to be done about that?
I have D E ? E E D
I think it may be "Deseed" but then again maybe I have a mistake in another clue.

That seems reasonable, Trevor, although I don't think the word "Deseed" appears in Chambers.
Presumably AZED is referring to chopping the heads from flowers to get to the seeds. :-)
