Really struggling with this, which is a fiendish "printer's devilry" concoction, in which the word which is the solution has been removed from the clue, and the spaces joined up. Can anyone help, in the first instance with 18a: A well-known liking? Few for a ride (6). I have *ri*ta. Could be "arista" or "crista", but I can't wangle either into the clue, so that it makes some sort of sense. Plenty more where that one came from.

Thank you. Any chance of a nudge with:
29a: Increased taxation, waiting for businesses eager to grow: **im;
24d: Despite commendation for my race performance, it wasn't amended: d**I*a.
I just can't get the hang of these PD puzzles.

I'm stuck after four days with bottom left corner. Please help with 31 across..(which my copy says has 7 letters but seems to have 9). I think it begins Bal to make the break tri/bal.... but cant get any word to fit.

Insert a word into
'Trieste don? His ability to survive in the jungle'

Hi Lumen

You're bal?????? is correct as is the split...think of trieste don as "tri/ested on" and you'll get it.
