Jazzgirl and chrise. Thanks for the help with the battle. I actually got it when I went home by looking up a list of battles. I had never heard of it before. But then the War of the Spanish Succession was not very high in my list of priorities!!

Chrise. I refer to help you gave me with an Argentinian footballer whom I had never heard of either. His name has cropped up again!! I was asking my son who lives abroad for suggestions for his son`s birthday. Amid the usual batman. spiderman stuff there was a mention made of footballers and in particular Messi!! I could hardly believe it and I see I will have to get genned up on this man so I can have a conversation with my grandson! What does L Messi do and where does he play??

Hi Mondrian
I has a similar experience this weekend. This clue was in Friday's Guardian:

New ref took latitude, playing advantage for Eden Hazard (4,2,9)

I hadn't heard of Eden Hazard at the time, but he scored a hat-trick on Saturday and is all over the papers today!

Jazzgirl and Chrise. Thanks for your responses. Lionel Messi appears to be a footballing genius. My grandson (aged 7 shortly) seems to have high standards.
