Hello everyone. I can hardly believe the weather that is battering the south of England. Hope all the RT crossword doers are escaping ( and everyone else of course)

Meanwhile I am stuck on that battle. 21A. I have
?A?i?L?E? Otherwise finished. Thanks for the explanation for 18D. I had the word but could not figure it out.

The name do the Battle comprises M1 (main route)
In the middle of another word for "recovers"
Very rainy here in the South east, but no floods. The earth in the garden is Just mud
