Thanks for this, Jolan. A great set of clues as usual. Always a treat on my rare free Tuesdays to have a go at these.

1. Another woe! Ivan ain’t no Native American (5)- IOWAN?
Subtractive- “woe Ivan ain’t” without the word “native” gives an anagram of “Iowan” – an American?

2. Part of Great Britain was emptied and refilled with booze (5)-WALES?
The word “was” emptied gives “ws” and “refilled” with ale- booze, gives Wales- part of Great Britain?

3. Up in arms about a belligerent’s right to seize and use other property (6)- ANGARY?
Angry- up in arms, about a gives angary – a belligerent’s right to seize and use other property.

4. Permanently unqualified to box, for example (9) EVERGREEN?
Permanently- ever , with unqualified- green, gives evergreen which “box”, the plant used for hedging, is.

5. Measure one piece of grain to finally determine it’s rudimentary (8) INCHOATE?
Measure – inch with grain -oat and e -the last letter of determine gives inchoate – rudimentary?

Thanks again.

Here are my offerings

1. Iowan - anagram (another) of 'woe +Ivan + ain't' minus (no) 'native' definition - American

2. Wales - Part of Great Britain - definition, was emptied = ws refilled (insertion indicator of) booze = ale

3 & 4 - Sorry, got distracted with Ginge's clue on 'CLUELESS' had to think of a riposte :)

5. Inchoate - measure (inch) + one piece of grain (oat) + finally determine (e). it's rudimentary - definition.

As usual, thanks for the mental work out and have a good week - wish I could think up quality clues quickly (mind you, the other contributors to this Forum probably think the same - RE :))

No progress on #2 WALES

I thought #1 must be an anagram of W(o)E IVA(n), but can only find WAIVE - not a Native American, I think!

Thanks, jolan.

I've really had it with this site. I tried to post my answers several times and kept getting cut off. I've tried different browsers and have the same problem. This is the only site this happens with.

I've tried to post the above many times too, and keep getting shut out.

I've been trying for 15 mins. to get onto the forum and keep getting logged out. So here is what I hoped to have posted much earlier:
Just two yet again:

1. Iowan (American) subtractive anagram "woeivanaint" minus "native"
2. Wales (part of Great Britain) w(a)s + ale (replaces a)

Looking forward to seeing the others. Thanks as always jolan.
