I'm finding it impossible to get a grip on this week's Jumbo. Is it just me? If so, perhaps someone could give me a hint to help with just one of the 20-letter or 16-letter answers. Please .....!

Hi Duckb, agree that this week's was more difficult than usual. I needed lots of help on this forum to understand the parsing of quite a few.

The first 20 letter clue is 4d. APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS. Hope that gets you started.

Thanks imagcq for the hint: that got my juices flowing. And Brendan too for the answer you've given me. Between you, you've kick-started my attempts in various directions - but I'm still finding it difficult to follow the mind-set of this compiler. And, Brendan - on the forum after midnight?!!
