I've just looked in my RHS gardener's encyclopedia (makes a change from google) and the flower is illustrated as golden/orange varying in size and shape, but mostly with composite petals. One variety is the African Marigold, another the French Marigold, also Aztec marigold. Some are more daisy-like than others and one looks similar to a small sunflower. I need breakfast !

Until Mondrian mentioned it, I hadn't noticed the sneaky price rise either. The RT is now ridiculously expensive. I would, however, recommend, if convenient, getting it by post. I'm well past introductory offers but I pay about half the full price.
It's not as if we have an alternative is it? I want an intelligent magazine, not one obsessed with soaps and reality tv. Life's too short for such drivel! I'm sure most RTers think the same.
As a lover of classical music, I also need RT to find out what's on Radio 3.
Each week I go through my RT in detail with a red pen, highlighting everything I want to watch, listen to, or avoid like the plague! I really should stop waffling on here and watch the tennis properly.

Night Owl. I am glad you seem to read the RT as keenly as I do. I have an order for a copy at my local shop and would not like to cancel same.

Meanwhile I am still stuck on the Argentinian footballer.. I know almost no footballers except one with the initials DB!! And it is difficult not to know of him!!

Chrise. Thanks for the reply but I am none the wiser! Like others I am also stuck on two shorties - 19D `Cast finished....` and 24A `Icy cover....`. Otherwise I have finished after nearly a week`s work!!
