My only possible answer for 27/24 ac doesn't fit the theme. Could someone help with an explanation please?

they fit together the other way round - i.e. 24a first, then 27a
I think you will see what the answer is when you put them together this way

As the title says 'two in a ROW'

Think London.

I didn't want to spell it out so bluntly.

Thanks, had never heard of it so really did need it spelled out. The only place I knew with that name was a maternity hospital in Glasgow and that was only colloquially, it was the name of the street I think - probably named for less glamorous reasons than the London one.

The title of the puzzle is "Two in a row" - consider the play on words. 24 ACROSS= ROT and 27 has to be TEN = ROTTEN ( Think of a place ROTTEN ROW ( two in a row). Also, for the other queries, think Shakespeare, birds, water...

I seem to have gone astray somewhat with the theme of water...
Anyhow, I just want to corroborate a few of my answers:
ACROSS:
34: ENSUE?
41: STUMP?
DOWN:
29: MEW?
37: COPE?

Thanks for any clarification!
