Hi Magworth. 20a is an anagram of inroads plus c for about giving a word for cynical.
23a is an anagram of worked plus a short form of Margaret to give the two word definition of a volatile situation.
Hope this helps.

21dn is the name of a (radioactive) gas.
23dn id a short word for father with love (in tennis) on the end.

Sorry that should be "is" not "id"
