Having completed grid (and a few of the thematic ones thanks to this thread ) I fail to see how the process 'swapping partners' works and so what to highlight any hint or direct answer much appreciated
regards

Leon, I am still confused about the partner swapping, but I am confident that the entry to be highlighted is an anagram of the eighth thematic clue and the unclued grid entry to the right of 32d. As stated earlier, I seem to have completed this puzzle without fully understanding it!

I think the process for that one goes GONE GALL TALL, the first being ONE&ALL, and the second something one might drink.
I only got most of the difficult thematic clues by working backwards after substitution; only the wordplay for the third thematic clue to get.
I'm sure, as usual it is one of the easiest!

Thanks to finn's hints I have now solved all the thematic clues and worked out all the pairings except one. The grid I completed earlier without this knowledge still appears to be correct. The one that has stumped me is the pairing for "The Hoff". I would have expected "off and on", but in the grid my remaining unclued entry is "The Hun" (defined by "German"). Could somebody please enlighten me?

Thanks leon. So my grid completed in ignorance was almost correct, with just one letter out. Glad to get that one put to bed before the next one comes out!
