I'm about to class this a "constipation clue", just can't parse it.

7d) Rather fashionable and stylish dates. (11)

A) Restoration.

Any explanations greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Neither can I. Are you sure of the answer?

What does it look like with only the known crosses?
e.g. ??X?X?X? ... etc

I'm positive. Yesterdays crossword, answer published today. The setter is not named, probably doesn't want to be opened to ridicule.
Yesterdays crosses were ?e?t?r?t?o?
I could only find two words to fit that letter pattern and couldn't parse either, so I waited patiently.
Cheers

Is this definitely cryptic? Could it just be referring to the Restoration, and "dates" is supposed to be a bit misleading?

A mannerist period after all...

It claims to be cryptic and usually is (although on the easier side).
eg. todays 9d) Debauchery of the Australian variety. (10)

Easy, but not terrible.

I'd say it's that simple- the use of dates to imply escorts rather than years.

Though you certainly wouldn't get it without the crossers.
