I have c-e-r- and thought it must be cheery.
Happy = cheer and leader of youth =y.
However the fifth letter has to be an 'h' as the clue across is - horse show.
My last clue!
Can someone shed light?

Could the one across be answered as "rodeo show"?

Even though rodeo show makes more sense, it has to be raree show as the clue is:
Carnival uncommon around the East at present.
I did look up 'raree' but didn't manage to find a suitable meaning.
