I know it doesn't fit with your letters, but it's not BARMEN, is it?

Stop is bar.
Workers are men.
Lawyers practise at the bar, hence barmen.

I don't think so....fourth letter 'a' is definitely correct.....thought it could be 'tapas' as 'last week' part of clue might mean 'past' - but I can't make any sense of the rest of the clue then.....

scorpiojo is correct with Kapok. It parses as
Last wee(k) + anag of OAP + sic(k) k apo k which is a natural stuffing used for soft toys etc. What is the clue that gives you the A

last week rambling old age pensioner got sick finally of teddys stuffing.
Despite your reservations, kapok looks good. Last of "week" - K + rambling OAP + last of "sick" - K = Kapok - a teddy's stuffing?

Yes, my 'a' was wrong - (I'd incorrectly spelled Tobago' with an 'a' instead of an 'o'.
